The Camp
Kamp Velebit is a small mountain camp located on Velebit range. It exists to provide land, basic infrastructure and quite nights.
There are no fixed pitches.
There is no fixed time for check-out.
Guests choose their own spot and manage their own time.
There is no program, no schedule, and no interpretation of experience. The camp is here to be used, not explained.
What happens here is up to the people who come.
Some structures you may notice are part of the camp’s past and present landscape. They are not offered as accommodation.
Built & Maintained
The camp was built gradually, mostly by hand, and is maintained daily.
Runs on default settings.
Still does.
Things are functional first.
Some elements are unfinished.
Some look worn because they are used.
Changes happen slowly, mostly through maintenance rather than expansion.
Atmosphere
Kamp Velebit is often described as quiet, but not silent.
Simple, but not empty.
Open, but not managed.
There is no program built into the stay.
What happens here is not organized — it emerges.
Community
Because there are no fixed pitches, fences, or separations, people see each other.
They talk.
They share space.
Guests often end up cooking together, sitting by the same fire, planning hikes, or heading out on trips as a group — without being told to, and without it being expected.
This is something many miss in conventional campsites, where everything is divided and private.
Here, privacy exists, but so does contact.
You can stay to yourself.
You can join others.
Both are equally acceptable.
“Everything happens for a reason.”
Here, most things just happen.
The Place
Kamp Velebit sits in Baške Oštarije, a small mountain settlement on the Velebit range.
This is not wilderness in isolation, but a lived mountain place.
The camp lies next to the state road that connects inland Lika with the coast. This is one of the most panoramic routes in the region.
The road brings access, views, and possibility.
You will hear cars.
At night, it quiets down almost completely.
The Region
Lika is one of the most affordable regions in Croatia that still sits on a direct route to the sea.
Food, supplies, and restaurants here are noticeably cheaper than in coastal or tourist-heavy areas — often dramatically so.
For many guests, this makes the camp a practical base:
sleep in the mountains, eat simply and affordably, and choose when (and if) to go toward the coast.
Nothing here is optimized for consumption.
Prices reflect the place, not a season.
Rhythm of the Day
Baške Oštarije sits between two worlds.
Cool mountain air above.
The sea below.
From here, guests head out in all directions:
-
hiking into the mountains,
-
driving toward the coast,
-
or exploring inland routes and villages.
They use it as a base.
Days are for movement. Evenings are for return.
Or not.
It is up to you.
Environment
Velebit is not gentle by default.
Weather and light change quickly here.
Wind can be strong.
Temperatures vary between day and night.
Guests are expected to be aware of this and prepare accordingly.
This is not a curated environment. It is simply where the camp is.
In Short
This is a place that offers conditions, not experiences.
How it is used depends on the people who come.
The camp stays the same. The way people use it changes.
“A place to raise your vibration.”
Gravity unchanged.
